Cheltenham Festival

This week is one of the biggest Horse Racing events in the UK, with the Cheltenham Festival taking centre stage in the horse racing calendar.

The 2021 Cheltenham Festival might not be the same this year as it has been in the past, but it’s still one of the biggest events of the year. Some of the stats are impressive too. 28 races make up the week, with an estimated 500 horses taking part. A monster £6,120,000 prize money split over the week, and every horse and rider are in it to win their share.

How much does the Cheltenham Festival make?

That prize money pot doesn’t come close to the estimated £100,000,000 that the regional economy stands to profit (in a normal year). Obviously, with the lockdown conditions still in place, that sum will be massively reduced. What won’t be impacted, is the estimated £350,000,000 expected in bets over the week. Gambling is big business, and the Cheltenham Festival is a very important part of the race calendar.

SO what is the best bet?

Cheltenham Festival

Oddly enough, the simplest bet is the most profitable bet for you and the least profitable for the bookmaker. Pick a horse and stick a tenner on it to win at 500/1 and the bookmaker will be seen running for the hills. Obviously, these bets are rare, but it is not unusual for a rank outsider (500/1) to romp home.

William Hill is offering a cool bet with a difference. When a horse you’ve backed to win finishes 2nd, Will Hill will give you your stake back in cash, up to a maximum of £10.
T&C’s apply. Bets must be Singles and only your first bet on the race will count -Selections must be odds of 3/1 or bigger to qualify – 4 or more horses must run in the race.

Cheltenham tips

There is no secret to bagging the winner, every horse at the Cheltenham Festival has a chance at glory, so pick one and enjoy. Timing plays a key part when it comes to picking the right bet that goes with the horse that you fancy.

  • The “favourite” horse never come with great odds from a bookmaker on race day. However, pick that horse a week before, and the odds are usually better. The trick here is to know what horse to pick.
  • Don’t get too carried away with picking the favourite. Second and third choice horses are usually the smarter option when it comes to betting odds.
  • Always expect the unexpected. Just because there is a clear favourite, doesn’t mean that it is a guaranteed bet.

  • Bet within your means. If you can’t afford to lose, don’t bet.
