Mastercard crackdown

Mastercard crackdown leaves US players unable to pay

Gambling platforms are struggling after the Mastercard crackdown leaves US players unable to pay. Platforms that operate within the US have been hit by an overnight crackdown on online gambling payments by credit card giant.

Stopping all transactions to known eGaming platforms will prevent all its US customers from using their cards to gamble online. The Mastercard crackdown is expected to be expended to Rival US card giant Visa.

This action by Mastercard is a sign that banks and payment companies are preparing for implementation of America’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). An act which bans the support and use of online gambling by payment companies.

This is a major blow to the image of online gaming in the US. But, not the end. All this will do is open up opportunities for alternative payment methods to credit card deposits.

Ewallet or Echecks will step up to fill any gap created. That allows players to deposit and play from an electronic wallet or account.

The legality of the gaming ban is in question and one that will split the US political scene. Especially with the recession still fresh in everyone’s mind. The question remains, can the US afford to back what is probably the most controversial turn around in recent years.
