Stop Unfair Promotions

Stop Unfair Promotions in online Gambling

Could the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) stance on wagering stop Unfair promotions? For winnings yes, but not for Free spins, bets, or Bonus promotions. Not yet anyway.

The CMA said “gambling firms must now stop unfair online promotions that trap players’ money”. Which, sounds like a step in the right direction.

Overzealous wagering requirements have long been an issue in the online gambling industry. However, the end is in sight as the CMA investigate whether wagering requirements on winnings breach the consumer protection law.

The response from the industry is encouraging as Ladbrokes, William Hill, and PT Entertainment pledge to make changes to bonus promotions for roulette and poker.

Changes to Stop Unfair Promotions

  • Players no long have to play multiple times before withdraw their own money
  • An end to “vague” T&C’s, and restrictions on gameplay (wagering requirements) are made clear
  • A stop to making players take part in publicity to collect winnings

These are positive steps in the right direction, but it DOES NOT signify an overnight end to wagering requirements. Bonuses, Free bets, Free spins and Free anything will still have requirements attached. Reading the Terms and Conditions before depositing is still a must.

Putting an end to unfair practices that potentially “trap players’ money”, is a very welcomed move by players and gambling affiliates alike.

The act of trying to withdraw your winnings after a “bonus boost” has never been an easy thing. The fact that there is a massive requirement to get your cash out has long been an issue. Changing the way we play and the ease of withdrawing funds isn’t going to damage the industry. Just the opposite in fact.

BGO Entertainment have already stopped wagering requirements on their games and bonuses, and happily promote “No Max Win, No wagering requirements. You keep what you win”. A great promotion and one that the rest of the gambling world need to adopt.

Ending the practice of unfair and unreasonable wagering demands is long overdue, but this won’t be the end of changes heading our way. With the assistance of the Gambling Commission and industry leaders such as William Hill taking part to stop unfair promotions in online Gambling, change is coming.
