Summer solstice

Summer solstice and the start of sunnier days.

Today is the Summer solstice, longest day of the year and the official start of Summer. It’s the day that hundreds descend on Stonehenge to celebrate a time of death and rebirth, when the days get shorter as the sun starts to tilt back on itself decreasing daylight hours.

Today makes the longest day of the year when the sun rises at 4:43am and sets at 9:21pm giving us 16 hours and 38 minutes of daylight. The actual “solstice” is the exact time the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer. This year that point was exactly 11:07am.

The solstice is known as “midsummer”. Nothing to do with Shakespeare, but when the earths rotational axis tilts most towards the sun. That rotation is at maximum at 23.44° towards the sun. The place to celebrate is Stonehenge. Join the druids and celebrate the changes of the season and equinox of the sun.
