HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Today is a sad day for the UK and Her Majesty the Queen as she lays to rest her constant strength and guide of 70 years, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg.

The Duke of Edinburgh died on Friday 9 April 2021 at Windsor Castle. He was aged 99 and died just two months shy of his 100th birthday. Philip was the longest-serving royal consort in British history, having served by Queen Elizabeth II side for 69 years, 2 months, 3 days from 6 February 1952 – 9 April 2021.

My strength and stay

Prince Philip was more than just the Consort to the throne, he was a man of character and played an integral role in both the modernisation of the Monarchy. He dedicated his life to improvement between the Monarch and the people. In doing so his work ethic was nothing short of staggering with more than 22,219 solo engagements, 5,493 speeches and a highly successful military career in the Royal Navy.  

As president or member of over 780 patronages, he never stopped his lifelong ambition of educating the world on matters that he deemed worthy of merit. The most prestigious amongst those being his own Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or DofE was once described as “do-it-yourself kit” in the art of civilised living”. Essentially a scheme set up as an opportunity to discover new interests and talents. Operating in over 140 countries worldwide, with more than 4 million participants.  

The DofE Award is open to all 14-24 year olds regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Essentially the DofE is programme dedicated to help adults navigate the rigors of adult life. The program concentrates on Communication, enhancing self-esteem and building confidence. All the essential skills needed to navigate life and work.

The Funeral Ceremony

There will be no State Funeral for HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, instead a more private affair is planned for the 17th April 2021 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The attendees will be Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Also in attendance will be Prince Philips grandchildren, Prince William, Prince Harry, Peter Phillips, Zara Tindell, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor.
